A Study on Sickenss Prevalence and Utilization of Medical Facilities Among School Ppoulation in seoul

Abstract
This study was carried out during the month of July 1962 for the purpose of grasping the status of sickness prevalence and utilization of medical facilities among school population in seoul. Total 1,208 persons including 425 elementary school children, 588 secondary school pupils and 195 school teachers were requested to answer the anonimous questionaire forms regarding their status of sickness and utilization of medical facilities during the same period. The following results have been obtained:
1. The sick persons occupied 50.9% of the total personnel interviewed and the teacher¢¥s group was found to have the highest rate with 69.2%
2. The sick person-days occupied 6.2% of the total person-days surveyed and the teacher¢¥s group was the highst in rate, with 11.7%.
3. Average days of sickness per person during this one month period were 1.86¡¾1.51 days in elementary school children, 1.40¡¾1.33 days in secondary school group and 3.65¡¾2.06 days in teacher¢¥s group.
4. Average diseasse prevaence per day has been extmated at 6.1% in elementary school children, 4.6% in secondary school group and 11.8% in teacher¢¥s group.
5. The persons who experienced one or more symptoms during this period were 72.5% of the total personnel surveyed and the teacher¢¥s group ranked highest with 81.0%
6. Major symptoms complained by the surveyed can by placed in the following order as to their frequency:
Elementary School Children
(1) abdominal pain (2) toothache (3) Headache
Secondary School Pupils
(1) Fatigue (2) Headache (3) Abdominal pain
7. Those who received treatment made up 65.9% of the total sick persons and the teacher¢¥s group had the highest rate of 82.9% Among the medical facilities, the utilization of drug stores seemed to be most frequent.
